Janet Major Textile Maker

Janet is an accomplished textile-maker and an image consultant.
She uses a range of disciplines – mainly spinning, dyeing (both natural and synthetic), hand knitting, machine knitting, felt-making, weaving, beading as well as hand and machine sewing to make couture garments and accessories.
She produces pieces using a variety of fibres - merino, Shetland, North Ronaldsay and Wensleydale being popular wools, alpaca, cashmere and silk together with exciting synthetic yarns.
She characteristically involves herself in ‘fine’ work where she combines traditional and contemporary techniques which frequently cross textile disciplines.
Her work is inspired by colour and texture in the natural environment.
Her pieces are mainly functional (eg. clothing and accessories). If you are looking for a piece from someone who really understands how fibres, fabrics and fit can work for you then you are in the right place. She does occasionally stay into interior design too!
She is also a qualified teacher/trainer and is experienced in leading workshops and giving presentations.
